PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE PRIMARY INFORMATION
January 24, 2012 is the deadline for enrolled party members to transfer enrollment from one party to the other, for voting in their "new" party's presidential primary.
April 19, 2012  is the deadline for new voters, and unaffiliated voters, to enroll in a party for voting in its primary.  For new voters, mail-in applications must be postmarked, or received by Registrar of Voters by this date.  For unaffiliated voters, the mail-in application must be received (not merely postmrked) by the Registrar of Voters by this deadline.  (See exception below for in-person enrollment)
April 23, 2012  NOON is the deadline for in-person enrollment, for new voters and unaffiliated voters enrolling in a party in person at Town Hall, for voting in primary.

REFERENDUM ELIGIBILITY

Warning – Property Owners must be U.S. Citizen to vote in a referendum 

In accordance with Section 7-6 of the CGS, as amended, only an elector of the Town or a citizen of the United States of the age of eighteen years or more who, jointly or severally, was liable to the Town for taxes assessed against him based on an assessment of not less that $1,000 on the last completed grand list of the Town or who would have been so liable if not entitled to an exemption as a blind person or as a veteran or as a parent or surviving spouse of a veteran who would be entitled to vote at the meeting would be entitled to vote at the referendum. 

*Note:  The last completed grand list will be the printed list that has filed and certified with the Town Clerk of New Hartford

You are required to present identification to be able to vote. A drivers license is preferred. Voters can also present some form of correspondence with their name and address printed (for example: phone bill) on it in lieu of the drivers license.

Registration Requirements

 

State statute requires that to be eligible to vote you must be a resident of the town and a United States citizen. Seventeen year olds may pre-register to vote at any time after their 17th birthday and their voting rights will mature on their 18th birthday.

 

Registrars of Voters

Office hours for the New Hartford Registrars of Voters during the months of July through September will be Thursdays from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. (with the exception of any Holidays that may fall on a Thursday)

Please call the office if you have any questions (738-9721). There are times when the Registrars will be in the office in addition to the posted office hours.  Messages may be left on the answering machine and your call will be returned as soon as possible.
